RSGI Limited is a global research and intelligence agency for the legal industry that focuses on resilience, sustainability, growth and innovation for law firms, in-house legal teams and law companies around the globe. With unique insights and frameworks built up over thirty years, the four founders (Reena SenGupta, Yasmin Lambert, Tom Saunders and Mary Ormerod) enable the industry to think more clearly about the future, charting and analysing evolutions in the business and practice of law.
The team runs training and development programmes, inspirational workshops and delivers strategic advice to leadership teams, extensive client listening and merger broking as well as stand-out content for partnership conferences and other events.
Executive Director, Reena SenGupta, has deep experience in assessing and rating legal teams and businesses globally, setting up the research methodology and running the Chambers & Partners Guides in the 1990s, founding the FT Innovative Lawyers programme in 2006 and the RSG India programme in 2008.
The RSGI team have authored countless thought-leadership studies and publish an annual GreenPrint to guide law firms in becoming more sustainable. They continue as the research and content partner to the FT Innovative Lawyers programme globally and curators of the Innovative GC Club.
Reena is a long-time analyst, writer, consultant and thought-leader in the global legal industry. With a background in the City, and as an entrepreneur and journalist, she has been responsible for creating market-leading rankings, awards and assessment programmes for lawyers such as the Chambers & Partners Guides in the mid-nineties, the FT Innovative Lawyers programme in 2006 and the RSG India Report (2008) along with many other ground-breaking initiatives in the legal sector.
For nearly thirty years, she has consulted to law firms, law companies, the Big Four accounting firms and general counsel on strategy, innovation and how to be relevant in a rapidly changing world. She founded RSG Consulting in 2001 and built it into a leading legal sector brand.
Reena now leads RSGI, a global think-tank dedicated to helping the legal industry create a sustainable future, is a unique creator of events and content, a seasoned public speaker and regular contributor to the Financial Times.
Reena also serves as a special adviser to the Digital Legal Exchange, is a graduate of the Meyler Campbell Elements coaching programme and an Asian Woman of Achievement.
Yasmin advises law firms, legal service providers, technology companies, professional services firms and in-house legal teams on strategy, business development, client relationships, law firm structures and remuneration and transformation. As an equity partner and senior consultant at RSG Consulting, she helped to build the business into a global consulting and research firm over thirteen years.
With expertise in quantitative and qualitative research and analysis, Yasmin devises the methodologies behind many research programmes and thought leadership reports such as the well-known RSG India Report. Her deep knowledge covers law firm management and leadership, emerging legal markets, digital transformation and innovation in the law.
She is a skilled facilitator, speaker and coach and was part of the executive leadership team which launched the Digital Legal Exchange, the non-profit, global learning institute committed to accelerating digital transformation in corporate legal departments.
Tom has worked on a range of research, advisory and consulting projects building expertise in law firm innovation, in-house legal department transformation, contracting, and the impact of data and technology in the law for RSG Consulting since 2018.
He led the FT Intelligent Business project in 2019 and 2020, investigating the convergence of data, technology and professional services in areas such as financial services, supply chains, and in the legal technology market.
Tom works on client advisory projects, undertaking client listening, market research and analysis, and strategic advisory work for law firms, legal service providers, technology companies, barristers’ chambers and private equity investors.
He is passionate about sustainability and the role of lawyers driving this agenda. With Pinsent Masons, Client Earth, and the Gratham Research Institute on Climate Change and Environment, he helped run the “GCs Leading the Net Zero Carbon Transition” event during London Climate Action Week 2019, and has a leading role on RSGI’s sustainability projects.
Mary leads the FT Innovative Lawyers research programme and writes and develops content for RSGI on the evolving practice and business of law. She is a contributing writer for the Financial Times and a speaker on innovation and sustainability in law firms and in-house legal teams.
She led the development of the RSGI GreenPrint report, an open-source research project which charts corporate law firms’ responsible business reporting as part of RSGI’s Sustainable Lawyers research programme.
Mary helped direct the market-leading virtual format for the FT Innovative Lawyers awards and Global Summits in 2020 and 2021. She has interviewed leading General Counsel from around the world to chart how the role has evolved for the FT Business Legal Leaders Report.
In 2021 Mary analysed years of FT Innovative Lawyers submissions and interview data to help develop RSGI’s Interwoven report on the evolution of the practice of law, and helped training materials as part the RSGInspire programme. She also worked on the 2019 RSG-India Report and first India Summit.
Mary is a historian by training, with an LLM in Constitutional Politics, Law and Theory. She has a level 5 NCTJ diploma in journalism.
Chris Sharp is a research consultant and writer for FT projects including the Innovative Lawyers programme, the Business Legal Leaders report and the Accelerating Business report.
He has worked on a number of recent events with RSGI including the FT Innovative Lawyers Global Summit and the FT Collaborative Innovation awards. He is also part of a team developing the RSGI Digital Innovation benchmark and RSGI’s GreenPrint.
Chris has an MSC in Environment, Politics and Society and is putting this expertise to good use as a researcher for RSGI’s Sustainable Lawyers programme.
Mina is an experienced researcher and writer working across RSGI’s projects including the FT Innovative Lawyers programme. She has interviewed hundreds of senior lawyers and business professionals in law firms.
Researching across geographies and practice areas, including business services, Mina has analysed how law firms across the world operate technically and strategically. She has conducted extensive research for the RSGI India report and the RSGI GreenPrint report.
Mina also assisted with project management for the FT Innovative Lawyers Global Summit in 2023 and 2024.
Mina has completed various online internships for law firms and written for a reputed Barcelona-based fashion & art magazine. She has also completed a work experience placement with the in-house legal team at NatWest.
Having lived the majority of her life abroad and speaking fluent French and good Spanish, Mina has a global outlook and an itch for travel. She graduated from the University of Edinburgh reading English Literature (MA) and spent a year studying abroad in Barcelona. Her dissertation examined the ways in which representations of opium in Victorian literature influenced British national identity. Outside work, Mina enjoys yoga, pilates and aerial silks.
Toby supports RSGI’s GC network through the Innovative GC Club. He facilitated the roll-out of the RSGI GreenPrint report and is involved in RSGI’s recent law firm digital innovation analysis. He is also part of the FT Innovative Lawyers research team.
Toby has worked at two international law firms (Morgan Lewis and CMS) as a legal intern with a focus on legal research and drafting.
After graduating from the University of Manchester in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Modern History with Economics, he went on to complete an MA in law and an LPC with distinctions at the University of Law.
Toby is passionate about sports and competed nationally in football, high jump, and ice hockey. He still enjoys playing football, golf and skiing and is a member of Royal Mid Surrey Golf Club and an Arsenal FC season ticket holder.
His other passion is travel – personal highlights include a 5-day trek to Machu Picchu, paragliding in Rio de Janeiro and whale watching in Byron Bay.
Sarah Davis is an experience media industry GC, Non Executive Director and charity trustee.
Her executive roles have included Group Legal Affairs Director at ITV Plc and before that many years as Commercial Group Legal director and GC at Guardian Media Group, during which time she was involved in the international expansion of The Guardian and Observer into the US and Australia and a number of high-profile news stories and events including Wikileaks, the Pulitzer Prize winning Edward Snowden revelations and the Leverson Inquiry into phone hacking.
Alongside her legal career Sarah has over 20 years non-executive experience in creative arts, education and humanitarian sectors, including as chair of Poet in the City, vice chair and trustee of the Media Trust, Governor of University of East London, the Society of Authors and in July 2021 joined the board of the Women’s Prize for Fiction.
Sarah is currently Vice Chair of the board of trustees of UNICEF UK.
Issy is part of the FT Innovative Lawyers research team, conducting interviews and analysis and writing content for the FT special reports.
After graduating from UCL with a BSc in Anthropology with a year abroad in Montreal, Issy moved to Paris and worked in a technology communications firm, developing her business skills and French language to intermediate level.
She later pursued an MA in International Relations at Queen Mary University of London, from Paris, focusing on research methodologies and global governance.
Alongside her MA studies, Issy worked at a European think tank as a research assistant in the Digitalisation Team, where she conducted benchmarking policy reports on the EU’s Digital Decade for the European Commission.
Patrick is a Senior Research Analyst working on a variety of research projects including the RSGI India report, the FT Innovative Lawyers series and FT Accelerating Business.
He is working on a new intelligence platform for the Indian legal market, which will provide comprehensive data and assessments of Indian law firms, lawyers and their work.
Patrick works across RSGI’s projects, conducting research, and creating data analytics models and visualisations.
Between finishing his applied mathematics degree at Bristol and joining RSGI, he worked in sustainability data communication, live events and museums, and continued research from his masters dissertation in swarm robotics.
He spends his time outside of work at comedy gigs (watching not performing), developing his botany skills, and falling down internet rabbit holes.
